Opportunity Description

The Network Engineer is part of a team responsible for the overall design, implementation, and support of the local and wide-area converged voice/data network infrastructure. Duties include the maintenance and advancement of the organization’s network technologies; routing and switching equipment, Internet services, remote access services; and perimeter network security services. In addition, the Network Engineer will be responsible for the support of Cisco’s Call Manager, Unity, voice mail, and related technologies. The Network Engineer will have the understanding and ability to implement Cisco and industry best practice solutions into the production environment.

 

The position will require the ability to work after normal business hours and will participate in an on-call rotation providing support as required.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.      Ongoing maintenance and advancement of the data network environment through effective engineering and implementation of solutions which support the user, application and the strategic needs of the organization.  In this capacity, the Network Engineer is part of the team responsible for the planning, design, implementation, and ongoing operational efforts of the data network environment.

 

2.      Plan, Design, and Implement enterprise-wide data network architecture to securely, reliably, and efficiently deliver data and application services to the Stamford Health System user constituency.  This includes the development of a fully redundant, secure, network architecture; management and administration of an enterprise IP addressing scheme; management and advancement of a secure Internet facility; management and advancement of perimeter security facility including, DMZ, Firewall, proxy, NAT, etc.

 

3.      Assume responsibility for network-related project efforts by coordinating with IS and other departments as necessary to ensure proper communication and execution.  This includes design and architecture definition as appropriate, project planning, change management coordination, vendor integratio

Education

Bachelor's Degree or similar training

Experience & Skills Required

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: 

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent technical training, with at least 5 years of experience in supporting and maintaining network infrastructure.

 

 

Minimum Requirements:

-     5 years of experience with Network / VoIP support and administration

-     CCDP or CCNP is required. CCVP is preferred but not required.

-     Extensive knowledge and experience of Core Routing and Switching design, configuration, and troubleshooting and use of Cisco Best Practices.

-     Experience will all aspects of multi-site network designs and support (LAN, MAN & WAN)

-     Strong knowledge on static and dynamic routing protocols. (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, etc.)
