Our client is hiring for a Food Safety Quality Assurance Specialist in Swedesboro, NJ. In this role, you will be responsible for managing all supplier and material activities, conducting supplier and distribution center verification activities, ensuring compliance with internal and external audits, and ensuring compliance with FDA regulations.

Job Duties

As the Food Safety Quality Assurance Specialist, you will: 

  • Be responsible for ensuring that the facility’s domestic and foreign suppliers are in compliance with the FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP)
  • Manage all activities related to supplier food safety and quality assurance to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements including supplier evaluations, documentation reviews, and hazard analyses 
  • Be responsible for reviewing incoming material qualification to ensure it meets food safety and quality requirements and enter and maintain all information in appropriate systems, such as SharePoint and any other applications identified
  • Be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and tracking all raw material and packaging material complaints related to food safety/quality and communicating them with purchasing and suppliers as well as following up on non-conformities to ensure proper root cause analysis and corrective actions are performed to prevent recurrence.
  • Assist with review of new products, ingredients, and suppliers to verify compliance 
  • Be responsible for ensuring distribution centers are in compliance with FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)
  • Lead supplier and distribution center audits as needed
  • Perform mock recalls and traces and assist Crisis Management Team during product recall execution & response
  • Assist with documentation, preparation, and participation of internal and external regulatory and certification audits, including corrective actions that follow
  • Assist with managing the facility’s food safety/HACCP plans, including conducting raw material and finished product hazard analyses and supplier risk assessments to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Create, edit, and update food safety & quality documentation with cross-functional teams as needed in a controlled documentation system following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and cGMP guidelines
  • Check documents’ spelling, punctuation, and grammar; check formatting for conformity to document management system requirements
  • Assist with developing employee food safety and quality training programs and conduct employee training in topics such as HACCP, Food Defense, Allergens, and GMPs
  • Provide coaching to production staff on food safety, quality systems, and day-to-day quality issues and collaborate with production team to verify that food safety standards are maintained
  • Assist with overseeing the facility’s Corrective Action and Preventive Action (CAPA) program, assist with root cause analysis, corrective action implementation, and verification activities. Responsible for trending and tracking CAPAs to identify overdue items, reoccurring deviations, and compliance

Education

B.S. in Food Science, Biological Sciences, or related field required

Experience & Skills Required

  • Minimum 8 years of food industry, food safety & QA experience 
  • Strong knowledge of FDA regulations and application of food safety principles (ex: FSMA HACCP, GMPs, SQF, Allergens, Microbiology) 
  • Previous experience in supplier quality assurance in food manufacturing and food supply chains
  • Experience reviewing and writing policies and procedures 
  • Auditing experience desired
  • Experience with SQF desired
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Detail oriented

Certifications

HACCP and PCQI certification desired
