Opportunity Description

The Manager of ancillary Applications acts as a thought leader and liaison to Cardiology, Lab, and Radiology departments, physicians, and leadership.  This includes, but is not limited to, the development of clinical and business cases relating to technology that improves patient safety, and quality, reduction of administrative cost, and regulatory compliance.  

 

The Manager is responsible for overseeing the overall design, implementation, training specifications, documentation, and support of assigned Epic modules, Beaker, Cupid, Lumens, and Radiant. This includes planning, daily operational management with a focus on customer service, ensuring break/fix Service Level Agreements are met, staff development, recruitment, retention, succession planning, and fiscal responsibility.

 

The Manager, of Ancillary Applications, manages the department under Hospital System priorities, department goals, and strategic objectives.  The Manager requires the skills and experience to be a thought leader, solution provider, relationship maker, staff manager, and clinical and financial business partner.

 

This position requires strong healthcare clinical acumen in the clinical fields under their support responsibility.  The responsibilities also require an understanding of HIPAA, CMS regulations, other healthcare rules and regulations, and an awareness of the importance of cyber security.

Job Duties

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

• Understand core clinical workflows, processes, and interdependencies.  Research trends and best practices in relation to healthcare application software. Promotes workflow analysis, process redesign, and adoption of software tools for performance improvement.  

 

• Develop, lead, and mentor staff responsible for analysis, build, and overall project delivery. Regularly perform gap analysis on resources to maintain optimum efficiency. 

 

• Provide leadership by identifying and communicating strategies on relevant areas of oversight for process improvement. 

 

• Assist with formulation of annual and supplemental departmental planning based on these metrics including performance appraisals of staff accountable for the individual metric. 

• Provides technical/clinical workflow guidance including application configuration. Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates systems needs to develop recommendations for our clinical care teams. 

• Assist team in translating business requirements into functional specifications and managing changes to specifications; prioritize, coordinate, and implement updates and requested changes to the system; review and test each new release; troubleshoot problems and questions from end users.

• Facilitate the implementation process and workflow redesign associated with ancillary applications.  Advise staff on the adoption of processes that improve efficiency with all applications. This includes, but is not limited to, software evaluation, project management, resource planning, process change, application training, dictionary build, application testing, integration testing, data conversion, and production support.

 

• Provides input to the annual budgeting process and manages fiscal responsibility for staff and healthcare software.  Manage vendor, consultant, and other third-party relationships appropriately and professionally, while maintaining the best interest of the health system.

 

 

Monitors compliance with regulatory changes particularly related to promoting interoperability measures and other CMS regulations. Works closely with departments to meet organizational compliance. Train and/or supervise the training of users and other staff in current and new aspects of system functionality. Participate in go-lives and support.

 

• Participate in On-Call support. Accountable and responsible for supporting business-critical applications and systems that operate 24/7/365.

 

• Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.

 

Education

• Bachelor’s degree required. 

Experience & Skills Required

• Minimum 8 years of experience (5 years in a leadership capacity) implementing and/or supporting Epic applications to improve patient care.

• Minimum 5 years of experience working with Epic. 

• Obtain, if not already certified, two Epic certifications including one in Beacon, Beaker, Cupid, or Radiant.

• Complete/Completed Epic CEE (Continued Epic Education) to maintain certifications, proficiencies, and badges.

• Experience working with and managing staff in a matrix-management model.

• Experience working with clinicians, especially physicians, is also required.

• Possess excellent team management, communication, and leadership skills and a commitment to fostering diversity, inclusion, and a culture of innovation.

 

Demonstrates

• Effective oral and written communication skills are essential.

• Expertise with healthcare business processes across clinical applications necessary to support those processes within an integrated delivery network.

• Experience with healthcare information service vendors and the implementation/support of their software

• Experience in working with clinicians in an integrated delivery system is required.

• Budget development and management is essential.

• Experience with vendor management
